AMES, Iowa – Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes will be celebrated in his hometown of Ames on Monday.
Mayor Ann Campbell will recognize the former Ames High School basketball star and his success as a professional NBA player by having “Harrison Barnes Day.” In June, Barnes and the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the 2014-15 NBA championship.
The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a presentation in the City Hall Council Chambers with Mayor Pro Tem Matthew Goodman, which the public is welcome to attend. After the initial event, Barnes will be visiting a number of organizations throughout the day in Ames. The public can also receive an autograph from Barnes between 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Ames High School cafeteria.
Barnes was also recently celebrated by the town when he was named grand marshal for their Fourth of July parade. The former North Carolina Tar Heel brought the NBA Championship Trophy along with him.
